A Conversation on Anti-Racism in Canada
Part One: Addressing Systemic Racism and Anti-Black Racism in Your Organization
Join the Milton Chamber of Commerce in our two-part series on addressing racism. In the new year, we’ll explore the challenges facing our Southeast Asian communities.
In our first information session, we’ll take a hard and comprehensive look at Systemic racism and Anti-Black Racism in Canada and the US and how it manifests in society and the workplace.
We’ll also look at the terms being used in the media and on social platforms and breakdown some of the popular misconceptions and confusion by providing proper definitions and the origin of these terms to facilitate a better understanding, possible solutions and ways to navigate this issue in public situations.
Finally, we will also address the 5 Steps Your Organization Can Take Now to Address Systemic Racism and Anti-Black Racism.

Guest presenter:
Kara Morgan has been an Anti-racism Educator and Facilitator for over 30 years. She has delivered anti-racism workshops and webinars to adults and children, police departments and private organizations, online and in person. She has reviewed and revised policies for both the public and separate school boards in Alberta and Ontario using an anti-racism lens. She was also a facilitator for the Government of Alberta’s Cultural Ambassador Program.
Having benefited from being born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and growing up in Canada, Kara has a broad-spectrum view of anti-Black racism in its many forms and has experienced its manifestations in the school system, workplace, and other institutional arenas in society.
Through advocacy work in the Black and broader community, Kara hopes to promote unified understanding and common terminology that will help erase much of the confusion and misinformation currently prevalent in the media and popular culture which prevents us from seeing the bigger issues around anti-Black systemic racism.
Kara is the owner of PlanIt! Efficiency Solutions and a mother of two sons who are a constant reminder of why this work is so important.
