Brian Burke to headline the 17th Annual Sports Celebrity Dinner & Auction

A Harvard Law alumnus, Brian Burke is one of the most knowledgeable executives in hockey. Starting as the Assistant GM for the Vancouver Canucks, Burke then became General Manager of the Hartford Whalers. After that, he was the NHL’s Senior Vice-President and Director of Hockey Operations responsible for, among other things, player discipline. He returned to the Canucks to be the President and General Manager, where he turned the organization around and was named The Sporting News’ NHL Executive of the Year. Following a four year tenure as the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Burke joined the Calgary Flames as President of Hockey Operations.

The Sports Celebrity Dinner & Auction has become one of Milton’s most talked about events, raising the profile of the Milton Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Scholarship Fund. Fast becoming one of the “must attend” events of the Chamber calendar, the Sports Celebrity Dinner & Auction brings together sports heroes and sports enthusiasts alike!

Organized by a volunteer committee of Chamber members, the evening’s program includes an autograph signing session, a cocktail reception and gourmet meal, and a silent and live auction. Bidding on the live auction items, which in past years have included golf packages, spa packages and autographed jerseys and sports memorabilia, become one of the highlights of the evening as the energy in the room escalates! The finale of the evening will be the presentations made by our keynote celebrity speakers.

Proceeds from this event and the Milton Farmers’ Market Scholarship Café go toward the Scholarship Program, funding local students in their post-secondary education. It is our goal to raise sufficient money to create an endowment fund that will be self-funding into the future to ensure monies will be in place in perpetuity to provide scholarships to Milton’s youth.
