Policy Update – PM Announces that Employer-paid Health Benefits Will Not Be Taxed

A few weeks ago, we asked for your help with contacting MPs and the Finance Minister to oppose the government’s proposal to tax employer-sponsored health and dental benefit plans. In addition to hundreds or thousands of dollars that would be added to Canadians’ tax bills, it also could have meant that many employers could no longer provide coverage to employees.

Yesterday in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister said the government will not be moving forward with the tax. Our message has gotten through that this was a bad idea that would harm middle class Canadians.

We will continue to monitor developments, but this is very positive news. Thank you for being part of this initiative. The Chamber network has a powerful voice when we all work together.
